Rosewood Hotel, Abu Dhabi

By Subhi Kussad,

This landmark development includes 189 spacious guest rooms and suites, 131 serviced residences, an array of signature restaurants, Sense – a Rosewood Spa, superb shopping and stunning views of the surrounding water and city.

The inspiration for the Handel Architects-designed tower, comes from the glistening Arabian Gulf and the vast desert that surrounds Abu Dhabi city. The 34-storey tower is a dramatic modern structure covered with reflective glass which was chosen for its daytime shimmer and its nighttime luminescence. The curvilinear architecture of the 470-foot-tall building is designed to suggest movement in this vibrant city, and the inspiration for the interiors of the hotel comes from the meeting of land and sea, desert and sky.

Rosewood is a Gold LEED certified building.

The Emirates Palace Hotel

By Subhi Kussad,

Located on the Abu Dhabi Corniche on a 1 mile stretch of private beach, its palatial, yet traditional arabic architecture and sheer scale have made it one of the most iconic buildings in the UAE.

It has 394 ornate hotel rooms and luxury suites which are decorated with gold and marble, 114 domes and over 1000 chandeliers.

Facilities include 14 restaurants, 2 swimming pools, a private marina and 85 hectares of landscaped gardens.

ACC was awarded the structures and finishes packages for the two winged, 400 room hotel and related covered parking and ramps. The structure works met a very tight schedule of fourteen months as it played a vital role for subsequent specialized contractors to commence their works. Our success on these packages translated into further awards to construct the Grand Arch, ancillary buildings, boundary wall, stone paving and landscaping works.

The structure was complex, with 26m high isolated columns forming the background of what was to become a most impressive atrium and 24m long post tensioned beams spanning the majlis and dining room, giving each an uninterrupted area of approximately 22m x 60m. Precast cladding included a Norwegian quartz aggregate.

The interior has book matched marble cladding to the walls and the atrium columns and staircases are surmounted by an 8m diameter chandelier of Moroccan design and construction. The majlis, dining room and presidential offices have ornate fibrous plaster ceilings with walls of similar construction or molded Burma teak. Doors and other joinery are hand-carved teak, and the carpets, which reflect the contours of the ceiling are hand-woven.

Furnishings are to individual specific designs and were manufactured in Europe and the Far East.
