Taweelah A2 Power Plant, Abu Dhabi
Taweelah A2 is a 750MW power generation facility and the first Build–Operate–Transfer (BOT) power project delivered in the UAE. The plant was constructed to expand Abu Dhabi’s power output capacity and formed a key milestone in the emirate’s transition toward privately financed utility infrastructure. The project is now widely referenced as a benchmark for Independent Power and Water Project (IWPP) delivery across the Gulf.
ACC served as the civil works and structural steel contractor for the main power island and associated service structures. The scope included the construction of the gas and steam turbine building, heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) foundations, boiler and transformer areas, the central control building, liquid fuel storage facilities, auxiliary support structures, and all related civil and foundation works. Delivery was executed on a fast-track schedule to meet generation capacity timelines committed by the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority.
The project required coordinated engineering, high-precision structural execution, and advanced logistical control to support continuous installation of major mechanical systems. Completed in 2001, Taweelah A2 reinforced ACC’s capability in large-scale power and industrial infrastructure delivery and contributed to the region’s evolving IWPP development model.
