Civil, Structural and Marine Works Delivery for a Multi-Stage Flash (MSF) Desalination Facility

Mirfa Desalination Plant, Abu Dhabi

The Mirfa Desalination Plant, completed in 2002, supplies potable water to the southern areas of the Abu Dhabi region. The facility has a total production capacity of approximately 23 million imperial gallons per day (MIGD) and is configured with three MSF distillers, each producing 7.5 MIGD of desalinated water. Steam required for the distillation process is generated via two supporting boiler units. The project contributes to the region’s strategic potable water infrastructure, supporting population growth and municipal service requirements.

ACC executed the civil, structural and marine works under the EPC contractor Fisia Italimpianti. The scope included construction of the distillation units and boiler foundations, a 650-metre underground cable tunnel, and a 2.5 km by 2.8 m diameter discharge pipeline. ACC also delivered a seawater intake structure, an outfall structure, and multiple large-diameter steel water storage tanks of up to 65 metres in diameter. Works required precise marine coordination, large-volume concrete execution, pipeline alignment and coastal interface management.

The Mirfa Desalination Plant demonstrates ACC’s capability in delivering large-scale water infrastructure, marine works and complex utility integration for regional water security programmes.
